How Kalytia makes money
Kalytia is funded by affiliate commissions. Some links to the tools we test are affiliate links: if you subscribe after clicking one, the vendor pays us a share of your subscription. It never costs you anything extra, and it never changes your price.
That arrangement creates an obvious conflict of interest. Here is exactly what we do about it.
We pay for what we test
We pay for what we test. We buy the same plan a reader would buy. A press account is often not the same product — different model, different limits, different results — and quality measured on it would not tell you anything about what you get for your money.
When a vendor gives us an account we could not have bought, we use it only to measure consumption, never quality: how much a real task actually costs in credits or minutes, and which paid plan that adds up to. Every article names the plan we tested on.
Any access given to us is disclosed in the article, or declined. We never accept payment, we never accept an embargo on our conclusions, and nobody reads an article before you do.
Scores are calculated, not chosen
Before we open the first tool, we write down the criteria, the thresholds, and the conditions under which we would publish nothing at all. That document is frozen. The tools are then measured against it, and the ranking is computed from those measurements. Nobody — including us — decides the winner afterwards.
Commission never enters the grid
The rate a vendor pays us is not a criterion. It is not weighted, not considered, and not visible at the point where scores are produced. A tool with no affiliate programme at all is tested on the same terms, and recommended when it wins.
No vendor sees an article before you do
We do not send drafts for approval, we do not accept edits, and no placement, score, or mention is for sale.
How tools get onto this site, and how they are ranked
No placement is for sale. Being listed, tested or ranked on this site cannot be bought: there is no paid referencing, no sponsored position, and no arrangement of any kind that puts a tool in front of another.
The default ranking is the calculated score, produced by applying the weights of the grid — frozen before the first test — to the measurements. It is the order used in every comparison unless an article says otherwise, in which case it says why.
The comparison is not exhaustive. A test covers the tools named in the article and nothing else. Tools are chosen for what readers are actually deciding between, not for the existence of an affiliate programme, and a tool that has no affiliate programme is tested on the same terms.
How to spot an affiliate link
Affiliate links pass through kalytia.com/go/ and carry the rel="sponsored" attribute. If you would rather not use one, type the vendor’s name into your browser instead — it costs us a commission and costs you nothing. We would still rather you had the information.
